“The Big Knit” was the original yarnbombing project created by Community Artist Veronika Straberger in order to support Headford’s efforts towards Galway2020’s Capital of Culture Bid. A giant art installation involving more than 300 people and local businesses transformed the main square of Headford. The artist hosted 14 art and craft workshops at various locations in the Headford environment to invite locals to get involved. With the support of local businesses 10 knitting chairs were installed throughout the village to be part of the interactive installation.

A big thank you goes to Mogs McDonnell and Nancy Keady for their involvement with Kilcoona NS. Each child contributed 1 square towards the installation and textile artist Mogs McDonnell yarnbombed her own High Nelly bicycle for the event.

A special thank you goes to crochet artist Sandra Joyce and her crochet group who were also on board as well as the local knitting circle in St. Fursa’s hall.

Many thanks also to Mairead McKeown and the Cloughanover NS for making a square per child and yarnbombing a Penny Farthing bicycle!
